Abstract

The skill development has been a hot topic in current times in our country. The challenges in skills development is the current state of education, skills development, and employment for Indian youth, and considers the challenges facing India’s skills development system. Education, vocational training and lifelong learning are central pillars of employability, employment of workers and sustainable enterprise development. Skill development is critical for economic growth and social development. There are several challenges which have been identified in skill development of the Indian youth. For instance increasing the capacity of the existing system to ensure equitable access for all, and at the same time maintaining their quality and relevance is a big challenge. However country is facing a paradoxical situation where on the one hand young men and women entering the labour market are looking for jobs; on the other hand industries are complaining of unavailability of appropriately skilled manpower. It is known as that 93% of the total labour force is in the unorganized sector. The key players of the eco system: employer, training providers, trainee and the government is a challenging task.  This paper focuses on such challenges in detailed manner the current state of education, skill development, and employment for Indian youth and considers the challenges facing India’s skill development system.
