Geographical Analysis of Aquaculture Development in Goa

Abstract

Prawn farming, in Goa, is considered to be one of the most lucrative enterprise due to high market demand and price with persistent global demand. Prawn farming development also holds immense employment potential to the local people. The present investigation is based on secondary sources of information. Although the cultured prawn is a nutritious food item, the domestic market for shrimp, i.e. prawn is quite negligible. Only peeled and second rate prawn is available in the domestic market. The prawn/shrimps farming activities are widely spread in different proportions in south Goa. They are largely concentrated in south Goa as compared to North Goa.
