Abstract

The following study includes the quantification of avifauna on the campus of Delhi University, North Campus, and discusses the various species available and their classification according to order. The ridge that acts as the lungs of Delhi and is formed by the last of the Aravalli’s is home to many species of birds year-round. Our study focuses on the resident birds of North Delhi. This effort is essential to monitor and conserve the biodiversity of Delhi. Our paper includes 34 birds, their common name, scientific name, order, feeding habits, call type, and abundance. By surveying various microclimates and observing the birds that occupy certain ecological niches we were able to compile a comprehensive list of avifauna. By examining birds that live cooperatively with humans and in urban landscapes and flora we can also observe how certain species adapt to a rapidly changing environment- since Delhi has seen rapid modernisation in the last decade. Through this study, we hope to paint a clearer picture of the creatures that rule our skies.
