A Comparison of the Metal Removal Rate from Plain Epoxy Composites Reinforced with 20 weight percent Sea Sand Particles Using CNC Machining

Abstract

Aim: The objective of this work is to investigate the Metal removal rate of 20% of sea sand particles reinforced epoxy composite and compare it with plain epoxy resin composite. Materials and Methods: Experiment was carried out for two groups namely Group 1 (Plain Epoxy Resin composites) and Group 2 (20% of sea sand particles reinforced epoxy composite). The sample size calculation was done using G power calculator and pre-test power is 95% mean value and standard deviation are 0.3 and 0.04 and 16 samples per group were taken for study. Sand is a granular material composed of finely divided rock and mineral particles. Sand has various compositions but is defined by its grain size. Sand grains are smaller than gravel and coarser than silt. Sand can also refer to a textural class of soil. Results: It was inferred from the results that the Metal removal rate of the plain epoxy resin composite was 0.194 mm3/min and 20% of sea sand particles reinforced epoxy composite was 1.377 mm3/min. It is observed that on performing One-Way ANOVA, there is a statistically significant difference for Material Removal RateĀ  (p= 0.023, p<0.05). Conclusion: Within the limitations of the study, It is found that the Metal removal rate of novel 20% of sea sand particles reinforced epoxy composite was better harder than the plain epoxy resin composite by approximately 68% with Low MRR.
