Abstract

The aim of the present study is to prepare Famotidine immediate release tablets by wet granulation method by using various disintegrants. Formulation is optimised on the basis of acceptable tablet properties and in-vitro release. In order to obtained best optimised product, 8 different formulations were developed. Different disintegrating agents like starch, pregelatinated starch and corn strach were taken as variables.Weight variation, thickness, hardness, friability, disintegration time, in-vitro release and pharmaceutical variables were studied as response variables. The different physical properties showed best comparable results with innovator. But higher percentage of drug release was observed when the formulation contained cornstarch(F4) compared to other formulations. From this study it concluded that formulation(F4) which contained cornstarch as disintegrant showed similar dissolution profile with innovator. The formulation contained cornstarch was selected as optimised product. The results of the accelerated stability of optimised formulation for three months revealed that storage conditions were not found any significant changes optimised product(F4).
