Abstract

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common endocrine disorders affecting women of reproductive age. It is characterized by a combination of reproductive, hormonal and metabolic abnormalities, including menstrual irregularity, ovulatory dysfunction, hyperandrogenism and, in some women, polycystic ovarian morphology. The clinical presentation is heterogeneous and may include infertility, acne, hirsutism, weight gain and metabolic disturbances.¹,² Conventional management is individualized according to the patient's symptoms, metabolic risk and reproductive goals. In homoeopathic practice, treatment is similarly individualized and is based on the totality of characteristic symptoms rather than the diagnostic label alone. This review discusses commonly considered homoeopathic remedies in patients presenting with PCOS-related complaints, particularly Natrum muriaticum, Pulsatilla, Sepia and Lycopodium, along with Calcarea carbonica, Graphites, Apis mellifica and Thuja occidentalis. Their traditional materia medica indications are reviewed in relation to menstrual irregularities, ovarian complaints, constitutional features and associated symptoms. The article also discusses the distinction between traditional homoeopathic indications and evidence-based claims regarding PCOS treatment. Available clinical evidence for homoeopathy in PCOS remains limited, and further adequately designed clinical trials are required.
