Abstract

Cultural tourism is one of the fastest-growing segments of the global tourism industry, driven by travelers’ desire to experience heritage, traditions, arts, and local ways of life. Rooted in history and collective identity, cultural tourism plays a crucial role in preserving indigenous practices while simultaneously contributing to regional economic development. In India, several small towns with rich cultural legacies remain underexplored despite their significant potential. Yeola, a historic town in Maharashtra, is renowned for its traditional Paithani weaving, local craftsmanship, and cultural heritage, making it a promising destination for cultural tourism.

This study examines Yeola’s potential as a cultural destination by analyzing the relationship between cultural tourism, destination branding, and heritage-based marketing. It explores the key components of cultural tourism present in Yeola, identifies external and internal factors influencing its growth, and highlights the challenges associated with branding a traditional cultural hub in a modern tourism market. Through an extensive review of literature and discussion of appropriate research methodologies, the paper aims to offer insights into how Yeola can be strategically positioned and promoted as a distinctive cultural tourism destination.
