Abstract

Roads are the most cost-effective method of transportation in India; yet, they are also very prone to traffic accidents, which not only endanger the lives of those who use them but also cause extensive damage to their automobiles and other belongings. It is necessary to identify accident hotspots on various roadways and to implement preventative measures at these places in order to cut down on the number of times people are injured or killed in car crashes. It is possible that, due to financial constraints, it will not be possible to take countermeasures at all of the identified blackspot locations at the same time. As a result, it is essential to create a priority list in order of ranking of the blackspot, and then take countermeasures in a phased manner in accordance with that list. On the stretch of National Highway 44 in Haryana extending from Kundli to Panipat and totaling 60 kilometres in length, the statistics on road accidents have been subjected to a comprehensive study (India). The discovered hotspot areas have been graded according to four distinct criteria that were previously established. The top ten identified blackspot locations have been further investigated and analysed in detail to find out the possible causes of accidents; and based on the findings of the study, countermeasures that aim to minimise road accidents on these identified locations have been suggested.
