Essential Oil’s Side Effects: Contact Allergy Dermatitis With Its Psychological Impact

Abstract
Essential oils are well-known for their pleasant aroma and several health benefits, including antimicrobial properties. It has established itself as the most useful and ongoing product in our daily lives. It is one of the most expensive and widely used natural products in the world due to its vast range of effects in different sectors. Due to the presence of active volatile compounds, sometimes these oils tend to have a negative impact on human life. The most common reaction happens to be contact allergy dermatitis. This review focuses on the active components of Lavandula angustifolia (lavender), Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree), and Anacardium occidentale (cashew nut) essential oils responsible for their detrimental effect on human health, causing contact allergies on different parts of the body. The psychological impact of contact allergy dermatitis on an individual’s life is also discussed in this paper.
