Abstract

This project investigated the effects of alkali additives on the properties of concrete and fly ash aggregate. A variety of alkalis can be used as an accelerator and are added to cement and fly ash to increase the fluidity and setting time of the cement.Grade 53 Fly ash, cement, water, and alkali additives were combined to create aggregates using Portland cement (sodium hydroxide, sodium silicate). The components of this investigation were 18% cement, 80% fly ash, which makes the aggregate light, and 2% alkali additive. The comparative study between conventional and fly ash aggregates was investigated. There is a new development of fly ash aggregates in construction, where coarse grained aggregate is the main component. In this case, the coarse aggregate is directly replaced by fly ash aggregate in construction. In this paper, the impact value and specific gravity of flyash compared with conventional aggregates are briefly presented.
