Impact of intervention package on stress management among nurses

Abstract
Background & objectives-Nursing profession is highly demanding and stressful profession which needs the ability to cope up with the stressful situations like critically ill client in dying situation and emergencies. A stress management intervention package may help nurses to cope effectively with the stressful situation. This study is conducted with the objective to evaluate the impact of intervention package on stress management among the tertiary care hospital nurses. Methods- Quantitative experimental research approach were utilized with one group pretest-post test research design to achieve the aim of the study. Data were collected by using Modified expanded nurses stress scale (MENSS) from 300 registered nurses selected by a non probability convenient sampling from different department/ wards of K. H. & MRC, Karad. Nurses were selected to undergo 6 sessions of stress management intervention package, each for 30 minutes once in a week.
Results- The results revealed that maximum 61% nurses experienced moderate stress and 17.70 % suffered with severe stress After intervention all the nurses suffering with severe stress moved towards around mild and moderate level of stress. The calculated paired ‘t’ value 18.980 is higher than the table ‘t’ value.
Interpretation & conclusions- Intervention package on Stress management having positive effect in reduction of stress level among tertiary care hospital nurses. Various teaching strategies such as PPT presentation, lecture cum discussion, Video assisted demonstration, brain storming, etc. were used, Interactive group sessions were highly acceptable and effective for the reduction of the stress level.
