Abstract

Parenting or child rearing promotes and supports the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of a child from infancy to adulthood. Parenting refers to the intricacies of raising a child and not exclusively for a biological relationship. Parenting is the most fulfilling job that we will ever have, but it’s not without its challenges. The objective of the study was to find out the differential pattern of parent child relationship among students with parents in transferable and non -transferable jobs on the basis of gender. It was hypothesized that there would be a significant difference between the level of parent child relationship of children with parents in transferable and non-transferable jobs on the basis of gender of the children studying in class tenth to twelfth. A sample of 400 students was taken under the study which included 200 students of parents in transferable job, of which 100 are boys and 100 are girls.200 students of parents in non-transferable job, of which 100 are girls and 100 are boys using purposive sampling. The selected sample was administered on Parent Child Relationship Scale (PCRS) by Nalini Rao (1989) along with a Socio-demographic data sheet that was filled for every participant. Results showed that majority of the students with transferable jobs were above average in their perception of parent child relationship whereas majority of the students with non-transferable jobs perceived unfavourable parent child relationship. Female children were found to perceive significantly more cordial parent child relationship irrespective of whether the parents are with transferable or non-transferable jobs.
